EV Link Up Highlights Growth of Electric Vehicle Market

September 26, 2024

The third annual EV Link Up, celebrating Jamaica’s transition to clean mobility, took place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Richmond, Llandovery, St. Ann, behind the LFA Country Store. Coinciding with World Electric Vehicle (EV) Day—celebrated globally on September 9—the event has seen impressive growth since its inception in 2022.

EV Link Up continues to showcase the expanding range of electric vehicles available in Jamaica. The 2024 staging featured nearly 30 EVs, a major leap from 11 in 2022 and 15 in 2023, reflecting the increasing interest and adoption of electric mobility in the country. Dr Wayne McKenzie, OD, President & CEO of Evergo Jamaica, reflected, “EV Link Up has truly shown the momentum behind electric mobility in Jamaica. Each year, we’re seeing more people, more vehicles, and a growing enthusiasm for the future of sustainable transportation. This event is about more than just cars—it’s about driving positive change for our environment and embracing the future together.

The event’s main attraction was the line-up of sleek, no emission electric vehicles.

Major sponsors, ATL Automotive Group and Stewart’s Automotive Group, displayed an impressive array of EV models. ATL’s lineup included the BYD Seal, Yuan Plus, Song Plus DM-i, Audi Q8 e-tron, Porsche Taycan, Cayenne S e-hybrid, BMW iX1, i4, and the all-electric MINI Countryman. Stewarts Automotive introduced patrons to the Jaguar I-Pace, F-Pace e-hybrid, GWM Ora, Range Rover Sport, and offered an exclusive preview of the soon-to-launch Maxus line.

Another key sponsor, Tropical Mobility, attracted attention with their VSI motorbike and Tesla Model Y, further diversifying the EV options available to Jamaican consumers.
The event was further supported by Scotiabank, 7Krave, Jamaica Public Service (JPS), LFA Country Store, MSC McKay, Jamaica Electric Vehicle Association (JEVA), Pure Water, Red Bull, Pepsi, Generative Consultancy and Zip 103 FM, all of whom contributed to making EV Link Up a success.

EV Link Up continues to bring together electric vehicle enthusiasts, industry leaders, and partners, offering an exciting glimpse into the future of mobility. The event’s location, LFA Country Store, also hosts an Evergo Level 3 DC ‘super-fast’ charger and AC ‘semi-fast’ charger, symbolizing Jamaica’s growing infrastructure to support the transition to e-mobility.

The event was hosted by Jade, with lively music by DJ Nova, adding to the vibrant and energetic atmosphere of the day. EV Link Up follows closely on the heels of the successful Evergo E-Mobility Forum, which took place on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Next is the Evergo Secondary Schools’ Robotics Competition, scheduled for November 2024.
